Our Story
What began in a high school Spanish class blossomed into a friendship and business partnership that would shape two remarkable careers in beauty. Kylie Seagroves and Ashley Vargo met as juniors and freshmen, forming an immediate bond that would prove lasting. During Kylie’s cosmetology studies, Ashley became her willing test model, sparking what would become Ashley’s own passion for the industry.
Inspired by their shared enthusiasm for hair artistry, Ashley later joined Kylie in pursuing her cosmetology education at The Paul Mitchell School of Raleigh, where they both graduated with expertise in dimensional hair coloring and advanced product knowledge. Their training at Paul Mitchell gave them a strong foundation in cutting, coloring, and chemical services that they continue to build on today.
Their professional journey began at The Spa by Mitchells in Cary, NC, where they honed their craft alongside seasoned hair artists and developed the technical precision that defines their work. In 2012 and 2013, they took their first steps toward entrepreneurship, establishing individual studios at Sola Salons — Smashing Hair Designs and The Frizzy Peacock Hair Company. Both businesses flourished independently, building loyal client followings across the Triangle.
When the COVID-19 pandemic presented an unexpected opportunity for transformation, Kylie and Ashley saw a chance to realize a long-held dream. Together, they created Milk and Honey The Hair Lounge in MacGregor Village, Cary — a space that represents not just the merger of their talents, but the culmination of a friendship that started in a high school classroom and grew into a dynamic professional partnership.
Meet Our Stylists
Ashley Vargo, Co-Owner
Ashley brings over 15 years of experience behind the chair and a genuine passion for helping clients feel confident in their hair. After graduating from The Paul Mitchell School of Raleigh, she quickly developed a reputation for her meticulous attention to detail and ability to translate a client’s vision into reality.
Ashley specializes in hand-tied and tape-in hair extensions, balayage, and dimensional color. She is a certified Babe Hair Extensions specialist and a certified Brazilian Blowout professional, having completed advanced training in both techniques to deliver consistent, high-quality results.
Her approach is straightforward: listen carefully, assess honestly, and deliver work she is proud of. Whether you are looking for a complete color transformation or a subtle refresh, Ashley’s goal is for you to leave the chair feeling like the best version of yourself.
Kylie Seagroves, Co-Owner
Kylie was the first of the duo to pursue cosmetology, and her natural talent was evident from the start. A graduate of The Paul Mitchell School of Raleigh, she spent years refining her skills at The Spa by Mitchells before building a thriving independent practice at Sola Salons.
Kylie specializes in Brazilian Blowouts, keratin treatments, precision haircuts, and vibrant color work. She is a certified Babe Hair Extensions specialist and a certified Brazilian Blowout professional, with advanced training that sets her apart from general stylists.
Known for her warm personality and honest consultations, Kylie takes the time to understand each client’s hair texture, lifestyle, and goals before picking up a brush. Her clients value her ability to recommend what will genuinely work rather than simply agreeing with every request.
Certifications and Training
At Milk + Honey, we believe that continuing education is not optional — it is essential. Both Ashley and Kylie invest in advanced training to stay current with techniques, products, and industry standards. Our certifications include:
- Paul Mitchell School of Raleigh — Licensed cosmetologists with foundational training in cutting, coloring, chemical services, and salon management
- Babe Hair Extensions Certified — Advanced training in hand-tied, tape-in, and fusion extension methods, including proper installation, blending, and maintenance techniques
- Brazilian Blowout Certified — Official certification in the Brazilian Blowout smoothing system, covering application protocols, safety procedures, and aftercare
These certifications are not participation trophies. Each requires hands-on training, practical assessment, and a commitment to following manufacturer guidelines. When you sit in our chair for an extension installation or a smoothing treatment, you are working with stylists who have been specifically trained and tested in that service.
The Milk + Honey Experience
Milk + Honey is a two-chair boutique salon, and that is by design. We are not trying to be the biggest salon in Cary — we are focused on being the best fit for clients who value consistency, expertise, and a stylist who actually remembers their name, their formula, and their preferences.
When you book with us, you work with the same stylist from consultation to blowout. There are no handoffs to assistants, no rushing to the next client, and no upselling services you do not need. Your appointment time is yours.
